Matthias Strobel founded the world’s first music technology association with MusicTech Germany, the German Federal Association for Music Technology, in 2017, and serves as its President. He is also Co-Founder and Vice-President of Music Tech Europe, the European umbrella organization representing national music technology associations across the continent. In this capacity, he is a central point of contact in Germany for innovation across the entire music sector.
He works as a consultant, mentor, and independent advisor, supporting startups and organizations in advancing forward-looking approaches at the intersection of music, technology, and entrepreneurship. Committed to unlocking the innovative potential — and thereby the long-term success — of artists and businesses, he draws on extensive experience and an international network to help shape the music ecosystem of the future.
Matthias Strobel is a lecturer at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University, where he teaches music technology innovation with a focus on Berlin and its global context.
In addition, he leads workshops on digitalization, innovation, and inclusion within the music ecosystem, curates international conferences, and facilitates events designed to foster knowledge exchange among visionaries from across the creative industries. His Berlin Music Tech Meetups have grown into a vibrant community of more than 2,500 music and music-tech professionals and enthusiasts. Since 2024, he has also organized MUSIC FRONTIERS, a forward-thinking conference dedicated to exploring new visions and solutions for the evolution of music and its industry.
Strobel is a frequent speaker at international conferences, where he shares insights on cross-sector innovation, emerging technologies, and the transformative potential of collaboration in reimagining the music ecosystem. He has also served as a judge and mentor for several of Europe’s leading startup competitions and accelerator programs in the field of music technology.
