Sabine Funk is a leading expert in event safety, crowd management, and the security of large-scale public events. With more than three decades of practical experience in the event industry, she combines operational expertise, academic qualification, and strategic advisory work at both national and international levels. Since 1992, she has been actively involved in the planning and execution of events. From 2000 to 2011, she worked as a freelance production manager, including her role at the renowned open-air festival Rheinkultur. Since 2010, she has been a core member of IBIT GmbH, a competence center for event safety, where she is engaged in consulting, training, and the development of safety concepts for complex “crowded spaces” such as festivals, transport hubs, and urban environments. Her academic and professional qualifications reflect a strong interdisciplinary foundation. She holds credentials as a Master Craftswoman for Event Technology, is a certified Occupational Safety Specialist, and a Business Administrator. In addition, she completed formal studies in Crowd and Safety Management (BA Hons), bridging engineering, risk management, and social science perspectives. Sabine Funk is deeply involved in the development of standards, research, and professional frameworks within the field. She contributes to and leads several high-impact initiatives, including norms and the publishing of industry guidelines. In addition, she plays an active role in professional networks and governance structures. She is a member of the Steering Board of the Yourope Event Safety Group (YES Group) and serves as Vice Chair of the Association for the Promotion of Large Events (VFSG e.V.). Her daily work spans a broad range of activities, including lectures and seminars, event management, support of permitting procedures, international knowledge exchange, quality management for security and stewarding services, mediation, and strategic consulting. She is also a key contributor to the annual “IBIT Conference on Crowd Safety Management” and delivers numerous seminars and workshops each year.
